Last year, Finland imported 183,000 tonnes of wood pellets. According to the Natural Resource Institute Finland (Luke), the country’s main suppliers were Estonia (94,000 t), Denmark (26,000 t) and Latvia (21,000 t).
Only 400 tonnes of pellets were exported in 2024. That corresponds to a 25% decrease compared to the previous year. The calculated consumption (production + imports - exports) of wood pellets in Finland was 506,000 tonnes and thus 3% higher than in 2023.
225,000 tonnes were delivered to heating and power plants as well as to larger buildings. 35,000 tonnes of pellets were sold to private households and agriculture.
