In the fourth quarter of 2024, 908,000 tonnes of wood pellets were produced in Germany. Year on year, this corresponds to an increase of 6,000 tonnes. Compared to the third quarter of 2024, however, output decreased by 21,000 tonnes or 2.3%. At the same time, it is the biggest production output since the period October-December 2021.
In the record year of 2023, 3.71 million tonnes of wood pellets were produced. In 2022, output totaled 3.57 million tonnes and in 2021, it amounted to 3.35 million tonnes.
In Germany, the vast majority of wood pellets are ENplus A1-certified pellets produced from softwood. At 95%, sawmill byproducts are the main raw material used. According to the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), similar values were last reached in 2019 and 2021.
In the fourth quarter, bagged goods accounted for 28% of total sales, and the export share was 14%. Figures were provided by the German Pellet Institute (DEPI).
