4.8 million tonnes of pellets exported

In the first six months, the US exported 3.25 million tonnes of wood pellets to Great Britain, the most important foreign market. In the same period last year, exports there had totaled 2.1 million tonnes (+55%). Japan follows in second place with 597,000 tonnes. Shipments to the Netherlands amounted to 408,000 tonnes. Denmark (297,000 t) and France (123,000 t) are in fourth and fifth place, respectively. According to US figures, only 3,191 tonnes of wood pellets were exported to Germany in the first half of this year. According to Destatis, though, Germany’s imported 38,600 tonnes from the US in the same period.

In the first six months of 2023, the US exported 4.62 million tonnes. In the full year 2023, 9.6 million tonnes were sold on foreign markets. The majority of the exported wood pellets were industrial-quality pellets for the generation of electricity.
