1.608 million t of pellets were produced in Austria last year. Compared to 2020, production grew by 4.4%. This is according to proPellets Austria. Production capacity saw a similar increase of 4.1%, reaching 1.817 million t in total. Pellet consumption amounted to 1.14 million t (+12.3% compared to 2020), as the association reports.
In the past five years, Austrian pellet production grew by 53% or around 560,000 t. Since 2011, when output had totaled 940,000 t according to proPellets Austria, production has increased by 71%.
To put this in context, the German Wood Fuel and Pellets Association (DEPV) reports a production volume of 3.355 million t and a consumption of 2.9 million t in Germany for 2021.
