German timber trade with a 20% increase in sales

Article by Birgit Fingerlos (adapted for holzkurier.com; translated by Eva Guzely) | 10.11.2021 - 09:22

According to the German Timber Trade Association (GD Holz), the development of sales was strongly influenced by price effects in the first half year in particular. Solid wood products have become much more expensive; however, this trend has subsided since the summer months. The products are available, and the association no longer sees any shortage in supply or wood.

As for raw wood, GD Holz members reported good sales of all products. However, when it comes to log wood and industrial wood, the procurement market is said to make calculations very difficult. Wood imports in particular need a functioning supply chain. Merchants are struggling with sharp price jumps in container traffic and the availability of containers. Nevertheless, importers generally describe the market situation as positive.
