The best of everything

The Speedmaster developed by Rex of Pinneberg/DE lives up to its name. It is designed for feed speeds of up to 500 meters per minute which is just the icing on the cake, however. This high-performance planer has many other interesting features. For example, the machine has the Rex Equalizer system which does the chipping on four sides and only where it is necessary. The Speedmaster was also designed to have low rotational speeds. To reduce them, Rex increased the tool diameters. The machine is designed as a modular system which allows customers to choose the equipment they need.

Not limited to planing

What makes the Speedmaster special, is that it is not limited to planing on four sides at high speeds. “Andreas Cordes approached us saying that he would like to have a Speedmaster for planing and that he also wants to use it for profiling and cutting,” recalls Joachim Schwarzbeck, managing director of Rex, and adds: “At the time, we didn’t have a machine like this in the high-performance area.” In order to be able to meet the customer’s requirements, Rex basically combined the best of all machines and previous projects in the Speedmaster. “The Speedmaster can saw and profile with one and the same shaft,” sums up Schwarzbeck. The machine is equipped with eight cutter shafts, one profile shaft each on the left and the right as well as a pair of shafts above and below. The latter are suitable for sawing and profiling. “It is a shaft that can be used universally, which means that the user does not have to make any compromises,” explains Schwarzbeck.

On request, Rex equips the Speedmaster, as well as all other machines, with the profile management system. This means that each profile only needs to be created once. When the operator selects the created profile, all they have to do is place the right tools on the shafts. The system automatically adjusts the axes and always with the highest precision – regardless of the day or time. For example, when a tool diameter changes during maintenance, all you have to do is change the new dimension for the tool. Rex uses a modern Siemens control system as standard.

First delivery in 2021 and 2022

“Cordes wanted a machine that is easy to operate and can be used universally. By further developing the Speedmaster to become a high-performance profiling machine with a feed speed of 400 meters per minute, we met the company’s requirements. With the universally usable shafts, we have taken a big step ahead of our competitors,” says Schwarzbeck. Since all processing steps are combined in the Speedmaster, the customer needs fewer shafts and therefore less space and less power. Rettenmeier of Hirschberg/DE will receive a Speedmaster with 500 meters per minute in autumn. With it, the company can plane, profile laterally and cut the wood. Cordes can also profile wood from above and below with the Speedmaster in Bremerhaven/DE. This machine will be delivered in early 2022.
