Laminated timber exports on the decrease

Article by Martina Nöstler (translated by Eva Guzely) | 09.07.2020 - 09:33

Overall, Austria exported 602,000 m³ of glulam and CLT in the first four months of 2020. From January to March, exports were still 3% higher than last year. As is the case with softwood sawn timber, they then saw a marked decrease in April (139,000 m³; -22%). This is according to Statistik Austria.

This decrease is mainly due to the negative development on the Italian market. With 191,000 m³, Austria exported 15% less to its southern neighbor than in the first four months of 2019. However, increases were recorded in exports to Germany (150,000 m³, +7%), France (50,000 m³; +1%), Switzerland (49,000 m³; +10%) and Japan (49,000 m³; +5%).

Spain received 24,000 m³ of glulam and CLT and thus 17% less, while Austrian exports to Belgium grew by 6%, reaching a total of 13,000 m³.
