German chipboard exports decreased

According to Destatis, Germany exported 373,816 m³ of chipboards and OSBs in the months of January and February. In the same period of last year, exports were at 429,312 m³. German exporters thus suffered a 12.9% decrease.

A sharp decline was recorded in chipboard and OSB exports to Great Britain which amounted to 33,160 m³ in the first two months of 2020 and thus fell by 44% compared to the same period of 2019 (59,187 m³). Shipments to China (12,691 m³; -36.4%), Austria (30,340 m³; -29.1%), Belgium (16,053 m³; -24.5%), Italy (17,262 m³; -20.6%), France (30,711 m³; -14.2%) and the Netherlands (38,796 m³; -13.8%) also saw double-digit decreases.

German exporters recorded increases in sales in Sweden (16,076 m³; +29.1%), Switzerland (21,066 m³; +1.6%) and other countries (98,459 m³; +10.7%).
