Italy is buying more laminated timber from the East

According to Eurostat, between January and September Austria only exported 175,000 m³ of laminated timber since the country's delivery decline amounted to 34% or 90,000 m³. A strong impact on this development, however, has the fact that big Austrian enterprises do not report laminated timber under the traditional customs number 44189910 anymore. For this reason, only in 2019 a correct annual comparison will be possible again.

What can be safely said is that Italian imports from the East are strongly increasing: From Russia came 24,000 m³ (+31%), Poland 15,000 m³ (+49%) and Latvia 12,000 m³ (+48%).

Traditional suppliers like Germany (only 7000 m³; -24%) are delivering less. What certainly plays a role in this concrete example, the new selling focus of one of the large German glulam producers that was taken over by an Austrian Timber industry last year.
