The kick-off of this year's furniture trade fair in Milan on the 4th of April was greeted with splendid spring weather. Besides young design talents and established industry veterans, the Euroluce (lighting fair) shone a new shine this year - just like in every uneven year. The office furniture offshoot "Worklplace 3.0" presented a product range from sober to pompous. At the Salonesatelite, the newcomer exhibition, the fair's internationality could be felt particularly strongly. Many of the promising talents came from the Far East, and numerous design schools from all over the world presented their projects. Next to glass, leather and metal, also wood again played a significant role in the programs of both newcomers and established booths. In most cases, it did not play a solo part, except maybe as chair or dining table. The method of combining materials as a mix or in blocks was taken another step forward, especially in the office space. Comfort and variability were the guiding themes pervading all exhibition halls. What was striking: Creatives seem to be particularly taken with indoor swings at the moment.
The organizers reported an increase of visitor figures by 10% (343,602 people) as well as more than 2000 exhibitors, 34% of which came from abroad. The next furniture trade fair in the Italian metropolis takes place between 17th and 22nd of April and is focussed on special exhibitions of kitchen and bathroom furniture.
