Shrinking Japanese housing sector

In February, housing construction starts totaled 61,000 in Japan. In the same month of 2020, 63,000 new housing units were built, i.e. 4% more than this year.

Statistics of Japan reports 119,000 housing construction starts for the first two months of 2021. It is the lowest number since 2005. The highest number was recorded in 2006 with 190,000 new housing units.
