For this purpose, the upper part of the wooden structure can be raised hydraulically to insert various sealing systems, ceiling structures, suspended ceilings or floors between stories and to record their respective sound insulation properties.

Thanks to external threaded rods, the weight of several floors can be simulated in order to create realistic sound scenarios, for example in residential complexes or schools. Using a high-tech camera, the experts analyze the propagation of structure- and air-borne sound and test various measures to influence sound transmission.

This acoustic mockup was recently inaugurated in a small ceremony. The cross-laminated timber required for the two-story test building was provided by Pfeifer Group’s production site in Schlitz/DE. Bernd Gusinde, Technical Sales Manager for CLT at Pfeifer, as well as representatives of Rothoblaas, the sponsor of the fasteners, and the Timber Engineering Unit of University of Innsbruck visited the result of this cooperation on the technical area of the university.
