Statistics of Japan reports 70,232 housing starts in the month of July, which is a decrease of 11% or exactly 9,000 units compared to the same month of last year (79.232).

From January to July, 468,352 housing starts were recorded. This is again an 11% decrease compared to the first seven months of 2019. In this period, it is also the lowest number in years: The last time that housing starts fell below the 500,000 mark was in 2012 with around 490,800 units from January to July. Housing starts were on a similarly low level in 2009 (463,000) and 2010 (450,000).
