On the German market, the fall in turnover was less marked in the timber industry (-1%) than in exports (-1.4%). This is according to Main Association of the German Timber Industry (HDH).

“Even though the timber industry recorded a slight fall in turnover for the first time in five years, we are satisfied with the overall result for 2019. The current development of sales is mostly due to the negative price effect when it comes to wood and wood products. Adjusted for price changes, we expect a stable development this year,” says Dr. Denny Ohnesorge, chief manager of the HDH.

The construction-related sector of the timber industry, such as manufacturers of prefabricated houses, windows, doors, stairs and other wood-based construction elements, recorded an increase in turnover of 3.7% in 2019.
