Housing starts behind last year

For August, the Japanese office for statistics reports around 76,000 housing construction starts. Compared to the previous month (79,232) this is yet another decline. From January to August, around 604,400 housing starts were registered. The highest level of housing starts in 2019 was in June with 81,500 units.

Compared to the same period last year, this is a decline of 2%. In comparison to the same period in 2017, the decline amounts to -5%.
