Compared to the same period last year, this means that construction permits declined by 3.4%. The Federal Statistical Office Destatis reports that those permits apply to both new buildings as well as construction work on existing buildings.
In the new construction sector of residential buildings, the construction of around 169,800 apartments was approved between January and July. This is about 7300 units (-4.1%) less than in the same period of the previous year.
