In December 2021, the previous administration had raised US tariffs on Canadian lumber to 17.91% for most manufacturers. On August 4, the U.S. Department of Commerce published the results of its third administrative review of its anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders. The new duty rate for “all others”, including certain Canadian lumber products, is 8.59%.

Speaking to miragenews.com, International Trade Minister Mary Ng said that duties on Canadian lumber are unwarranted and unfair and that Canada plans to challenge the results of the latest administrative review through a dispute-settlement process under Chapter 10 of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
