Softwood lumber imports up by one quarter

From January to May, Japan imported 2.2 million m³ of softwood lumber, i.e. 25.8% more than in the same period of 2021.

Imports from Canada fell by 6.2% to 447,000 m³. Purchases from Romania also decreased in the first five months (47,000 m³; -22.2%). An upward trend was recorded in shipments from all other main supplying countries, such as Russia (395,000 m³; +36.5%), Sweden (395,000 m³; +32.5%) or Finland (367,000 m³; +29.9%). Softwood lumber imports from Chile (126,000 m³; +102.7%) and Germany (49,000 m³; +207.5%) stand out with big increases.
