Article by Günther Jauk (translated by Eva Guzely) | 10.01.2022 - 09:52

From January to October 2021, Austria exported 4.99 million m³ of softwood lumber (incl. planed timber), which is exactly the same quantity as in the same period of 2020. Compared to 2019, however, exports saw a 4% decrease, as a look in the Datacube shows.

Exports to Italy rose by 14% to 2.28 million m³, while those to Germany remained constant at around 1 million m³. Shipments to Slovenia fell by 35% to 318,000 m³. Exports to Slovenia practically reflect Austria’s shipments to the MENA region since they are made via the port of Koper.

Japan received 214,000 m³ of softwood lumber from Austria, i. e. 13% more than in 2020. Exports to the US fell by 34% to 139,000 m³ according to Statistik Austria (Editor’s note: According to US figures, Austrian shipments saw a marked increase in the same period).

Data are collected by Statistik Austria.
