2021 starts with a high US price

According to most US market analysts, the 2-by-4 price has been stable for weeks at a level which would have been an all-time high until summer 2020. In the third quarter, the price was skyrocketing like never before only to see a sharp decline afterwards.

In December, however, the market recovered significantly from this drop in prices. According to Madison’s Lumber Reporter, strong demand and a supply which is still insufficient bring the 2-by-4 price (Western SPF, KD, # 2 & better) to US $ 874/1000 bft in week 2 of 2021. With a currency exchange rate of $ 1.22/€, European suppliers earn around € 462/m³ (actual size), which is € 211/m³ more than last year.

Prices of more than $ 900/1000 bft at the turn of the year which were recently reported on social media platforms have been taken back again. The trading volume was too small, and they did not reach this level after all. Consequently, Holzkurier corrected its graphic for week 53.
