In May and June, exports were stable on last year’s level. Since then, they have been increasing thanks to the US. Germany’s main market received already 1.25 million m³ of softwood sawn timber, i.e. 57% more than last year.
A marked increase was also recorded in China where sales were up by 30% in the first nine months, reaching a total of 760,000 m³.
Both Austria and the Netherlands bought around 670,000 m³ which is slightly less than in 2019. Exports to India fell by a marked 26%. The country was also hit very hard by the lockdown.
