In the first seven months, Russian softwood sawn timber exports decreased by 2% year on year. As in the months before, China is Russia’s main client and received 10.7 million m³ of sawn and planed timber from January to July. Compared to the same period of 2019 (11.4 million m³), this is a decrease of 6%.
By contrast, exports to Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan rose by 3.4% to 1.4 million m³ and by 21% to 621,000 m³, respectively. With 577,000 m³ (-4%), shipments to Japan have seen a negative development after a stable first half year.
Exports to Kazakhstan increased by 38% year on year (2019: 395,000 m³), bringing the total to 546,000 m³. Sales to Egypt keep falling (702,000 m³; -28.4%).
