China’s endless hunger for wood

With 31.26 million m³, Russia exported 4% more softwood sawn and planed timber in 2019 than it did the previous year. This is according to reports by the Russian customs authorities. Exports to Russia’s main foreign market saw a further marked increase: China received 19.27 million m³ in 2019 and thus 11% or 2 million m³ more than in 2018.

Sales in Uzbekistan (2.43 million m³; -6%) and Egypt (1.14 million m³; -7%) decreased, whereas exports to Japan rose by 14% to 978,000 m³. Deliveries to Azerbaijan remained more or less stable at 960,000 m³ (+2%).
