Decline of softwood sawn timber imports

With an overall 31.2 million m³ in the first ten months of 2019, US softwood sawn timber imports decreased by 5% compared to the same period of 2018. This is according to the FAS. Only two of the main supplying countries saw their deliveries increase, i.e. Germany (1 million m³; +6%) and the Czech Republic (59,000 m³; +29%).

28.2 million m³ of softwood sawn timber, and thus 5% less, were imported from Canada. In relative terms, there were marked decreases in imports from Sweden (331,000 m³; -15%), Chile (219,000 m³; -21%), Austria (194,000 m³; -12%) and Romania (136,000 m³; -27%).
