Declining softwood lumber imports

With a total of 3.78 million m³, Japan's softwood lumber imports (including planed good) dropped by 6% in the first eight months. While main supplier Canada delivered 23% less (totaling 972,000 m³), Russia boosted deliveries to Japan by 7% to 617,000 m³. Finland (614,000 m³; -5%) and Sweden (502,000 m³; -4%) sold less softwood lumber than during the same period last year. Austria comes in fifth amongst top suppliers in the first eight months: +4% to 226,000 m³. From these five countries, Japan imported almost 3 million m³ of softwood lumber; this is almost 78% of the total volume.
