Softwood lumber price on fourth-highest level

The last time the producer price for softwood lumber was lower than the level of fresh concrete was in last year's June. Up until September, it was continuously rising with a peak level of 108.4 points in September. Since then, however, the graph has been sinking – even if by only 0.1 points in December compared to the previous month. With this, the producer price was still on its fourth-highest level in years, as data from Destatis indicate. The November value once again crossed the line of fresh concrete which conversely continued to show an upward trend and finished in December with 108.1 points. Raw iron and steel exceeded this by far with 117.8 points but also showed a slight downward tendency towards the end of the year. The same holds true for plastics – with 105.4 points in December, it was even further removed from softwood lumber and fresh concrete. A stable development – on a raised and maintained level since April – was observed for cement with 102.1 points.
