Hibernating Algeria?

Article by Gerd Ebner, translated by Susanne Höfler | 12.12.2018 - 11:59

Algerian storage spaces are currently said to be well-filled especially since Swedish suppliers have been selling additional volumes.

In any case, the prices for softwood lumber are reportedly under pressure and have by now lost up to €20/m³ compared to summer prices.

Algeria continues to be seized by a political paralysis in the face of upcoming presidential elections in April 2019. As long as the outcome is not known, it is most unlikely that new construction projects are initiated.

Some are hoping that around February or March, the market will become more active again. For the most recent ENAP tender (15,000 m³), delivery until mid or end of the 1Q apparently is sufficient. Evidently, the customers are not in a rush.
