In the first five months of this year, Austria exported 2.42 million m³ of softwood lumber abroad. Year-on-year, this is an increase of 6%. While the most important customer, Italy, almost stagnates at a level of 1.1 million m³ (+1%), overseas exports - due to the high US prices - increased by 43,000 m³ (+262%). Another increase was observed for sales to Germany and Slovenia which are the second and third most important markets for Austria's softwood lumber exports. While Germany bought 29,000 m³ (+7%) more which means a total of 422,000 m³ between January and May, Slovenia's plus amounted to 17,000 m³ (+8%).
Austria's sawmill saw negative developments in Croatia (-9%; -7,000 m²; 76,000 m³) and Czech Republic (-13%; -8,000 m³; 52,000 m³).
