US price softening on record level

In the past two weeks, the price for US softwood lumber dropped considerably.

The current price for 2-by-4 free Great Lakes region is currently falling US-$ 25 short of the former record level of US-$625. This price weakening is, amongst other things, caused by continuously bad weather in the east of the country, as Random Lengths analyses.

The changed market situation caused a drop in prices for European exporters as well: the assortment is now sold for €313/m³. This is €15/m³ less than two weeks ago. However, the price still exceeds the usual price level by far. Compared to the value of the same period in 2017 alone, the price difference is €+50/m³. The average price in 2017 was €233/m³ - this is €80/m³ less than the current level.
