From January to April, China imported nearly 9.25 million m³ of softwood logs, as China Customs Statistics reports. Compared to the same period of last year, imports have decreased by nearly 42% or 6.6 million m³. A negative trend can also be observed in comparison with 2020. That year, imports had totaled 11.67 million m³.

Softwood log imports from New Zealand fell by 25.4% to 4.65 million m³, and those from Germany decreased by 50% to 1.99 million m³. All other main supplying countries also shipped smaller volumes to China. Latvia is the only exception: The Baltic state sold 111,000 m³ to China in the first four months, i.e. 419% more than last year.
