31 million m³ were not part of regular logging, but were damaged wood. “The negative trend thus continues,” says CZSO’s Josef Kahuda. The majority of harvested wood was softwood (96.1%). To be precise, spruce (90.1%), pine (4.0%), beech (1.7%) and larch (1.5%) were the main types. The hardwood harvest decreased by 14% to 203,000 m³.

The official figures are thus even higher than what was expected by Holzkurier’s editorial team based on previous data.

Most of the damaged wood accumulated in the Vysočina region (7.8 million m³), followed by Jihočeský (4.3 million m³), South Moravia (3.4 million m³) and Olomouc (2.9 million m³).

In the Czech Republic, the majority of forests (54.2%) are managed by government agencies.
