The Green Deal’s aim is to make Europe carbon-neutral by 2050. In order to reach the goals defined in the deal, measures are taken which range from investments in top level research to the preservation of the natural environment. In a joint declaration, the platforms Forst Holz Papier (FHP) Österreich and Forst & Holz Deutschland demand that the benefits and the potential of sustainable forestry and use of wood be used and integrated more effectively into the climate protection concept for Europe, the Green Deal.

Rudolf Rosenstatter, chairman of FHP Austria, says: “The use of wood is the key to success on the way to a carbon-neutral future. Without a stronger focus on the use of wood and especially on timber constructions, we won’t solve climate-related problems. By using this most important renewable raw material, CO2 is drawn from the atmosphere. Also, it has further remarkable potential in the replacement of energy-intensive raw and construction materials as well as fossil fuels in the context of a bioeconomy.
