While in January, forest officers recorded 139,000 sm³ still, this figure continuously increased over the year. In August, the volume of beetle-infested wood reached its tragic peak value with 927,000 sm³.
If we were to base this year's annual beetle infestation volume on November and December of 2017 in which beetle-infestation was considerably lower, the total amount would be 5.2 million sm³.
Year-on-year, this would be a doubling of the damaged wood volume. In 2017, the beetle-infested wood volume was 2.6 million sm³.
