Data of the twelfth forest inventory published by LUKE on the 14th of November indicate that Finland's forest area amounts to 86% of the land. The distribution of tree species is as follows: 50% pine, 30% spruce, and 20% hardwood. Compared to the previous inventory, the annual total growth increased by 4% to 4.8 sm³/ha. It fluctuates between 2.1 sm³/ha in Northern Lapland and 8.2 sm³/ha in Southern Päijät-Häme. Also the diameter distribution changed. The assessment indicates a diameter at breast height of 20 cm+ for 56% of trees (1.3 million sm³), which is 9% more than in the previous inventory. The average dead wood share is 5.7 sm³/ha.

This forest inventory was ascertained between 2014 and 2016 under the supervision of Kari Korhonen.
