ITALY

Slight recovery for glulam/CLT demand

Article by Gerd Ebner, translated by Susanne Höfler | 05.12.2019 - 08:53

This seems to smooth out the severe dent of 2018 (267,000 m³ in nine months) a little. In the previous years, the level had always been significantly higher (2017: 350,000 in nine months; 2016: 400,000 m3; 2015: 380,000 m3).

One of the beneficiaries of the slight recovery is Austria. The Alpine country delivered 190,000 m³ which is 6% more and with a 70% share of imports in Italy has a dominating role there.

But Russia (25,000 m³; +6%) and Latvia (15,000 m³; +25%) are catching up. For four years already, Russia has consistently been the second most important supplier while Germany saw another decline by -24% to only 5300 m³ delivered.
