Good years for the timber construction sector

Article by Günther Jauk (translated by Eva Guzely) | 30.01.2020 - 09:46

At the end of last year, 79% of timber construction companies interviewed for Holzkurier’s economic survey stated that their order situation was good in the fourth quarter of 2019. 21% described their order situation as “satisfactory” and not one interviewee as “bad”. Since the start of Holzkurier’s economic barometer two years ago, the percentage of those who reported a “good” order situation was always above 60%.

The outlook for the future is similarly positive: 64% do not expect any changes of their order situation this quarter. 18% expect an improvement and the same percentage thinks that there will be a deterioration.

Companies see the biggest potential in the area of restoration/renovation/annexes/additions of stories. 36% of interviewees expect a further improvement of the order situation in the first half year of 2020. When it comes to prices, 36% think that they are going to rise. 50% expect that the prices of timber construction products are going to remain constant, and 14% expect a fall in prices.

How does the sector evaluate itself? How do competitors see the future? What is the situation like compared to the previous year? And last but not least: How are prices going to develop? Those are questions which Holzkurier is trying to answer through online surveys. For this purpose, Holzkurier’s editorial team contacted around 1,000 timber construction companies in the DACH region. The results you can find in the charts.
