More renewable energy for Finland

Article by Dinah Urban, translated by Susanne Höfler | 06.03.2018 - 13:41

With a revised funding scheme, Finland wants to boost renewable energies. Until 2050, the country's emitted greenhouse gases are to be reduced by at least 80%. To achieve this, at least half of Finland's energy consumption must be satisfied by means of renewable resources until 2030.

Besides nuclear power, biomass is gaining in importance, as well. Heating with wood not only has a long tradition in Scandinavia but already accounts for one fourth of total consumption, as gtai.de informs. A biomass heating plant project run by Helsingin Energia includes several locations and an amount of investment of €360 million. The implementation of those plans is scheduled until 2024.
