Last year, German pellet producers had an output of 2.82 million tons. In 2018, 2.42 million tons had been produced. Since 2016 (1.93 million tons), pellet production has been growing by more than 45% in Germany. Given the capacity expansions which have already been announced by various pellet producers, the DEPV expects an overall production of 3 million tons this year. This would be a further increase of over 6% compared to 2019.

According to the DEPV, the percentage of logs not suitable for sawing rose again at the end of the year and reached 18.9%. In the third quarter of 2019, it was at 12.2%, and in the previous years it ranged from 5 to 6%. Since the second quarter of 2019, the percentage of pellets sold in bags has been stable at around 25%. Three quarters of pellets are sold loose. The export rate of pellets produced in Germany is 14.7%. 97.4% of pellets are of ENplus A1 quality.
