The construction of Pollmeier's laminated veneer lumber (LVL-)line in Creuzburg/DE is progressing. Veneer and plywood specialist Raute, Nastola/FI, is currently testing the already finished peeling unit at their premises in Finland. In "a few weeks" the 2,000-ton -press designed by Siempelkamp, Krefeld/DE, will be delivered, company sources say. About 100 trucks will be needed for the transport. The press will be mounted on a 80 m long and 5 m wide foundation which has already been built, the company reported. The LVL is a new line of business for Pollmeier. For this, the company will hire 120 new staff, including specialists for international sales.

Beech-LVL is said to have a bending strength three times higher than glulam made of spruce. The product enables "greater spans or more sophisticated, delicate structures with smaller cross sections", CEO Ralf Pollmeier praises his newly developed wood product. In addition, beech-LVL is to be used in floors, stairs and furniture making.

Apart from LVL-beams and -panels, Pollmeier will also present concepts of final products at the Interzum Trade Fair from 13 to 16 May in Cologne/DE.
